VANDALS SMASH UP TWO GOALS DURING BIG LOCAL DERBY!
Carlton Town were on the receiving end of their first league defeat of the season on Tuesday night when an excellent Belper Town performance earnt the home team a 3-0 win.
There was a feeling among supporters that maybe a tough 8 days had caught up with the Millers, a hard fought point at League leaders Halesowen last Tuesday, a highly charged local Derby against 5th placed Ilkeston Town on Saturday and then yet another local Derby at Belper Town on Tuesday.
The Millers looked drained and only sprang to life when Belper took the lead, a 10 minute onslaught was launched on the Nailers goal and if Tom Maddison’s close effort had not been cleared off the line in the 77th minute, then the final result may have been somewhat different, but Belper went straight up the other end and scored the decisive second ironically courtesy of former Miller Reece Bertram, how often does that happen !
Nothing should be taken away from Belper however, they were worthy winners on the night, but more concerning for Carlton was news from the weekend from Stoke Lane that during Saturday’s match with Ilkeston, two training goals on the club’s 3G pitch had been smashed up.
Carlton although not letting the 3G pitches out on a Matchday, leave the gates open for youngsters to go and have a kick around and last Saturday had more youngsters in attendance than usual given it was a record league crowd.
It is something that will now need to be looked at after ground staff found 2 goals pretty much destroyed after Saturday’s games with crossbars snapped and one goal completely collapsed. It is not something that has ever happened before and stewards would not have covered that area. If anyone at the game saw anyone damaging the goals, they can speak to the club confidently.
