TWO MORE STORIES FROM A MAGICAL STOKE LANE SATURDAY!
It might have been raining constantly, bitingly cold and blowing a gale straight off the nearby River Trent, but the 2-1 win over Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday also brought us two tales that only Non League Football can.
Chairman Mick Garton was looking for club Photographer Lou Lardi to pair up with the Carlton Town U10 Yellows who were the mascots for the clash, when two university students who had been invited to the game with Media passes approached the Chairman to introduce themselves.
Sam and Kian, two cracking young lads were there as part of their media studies with Nottingham University and will write up their own observations and report in due course.
The game started and many spectators watched the game from inside the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar, given the horrible conditions and with the score at 0-0 at half time. Pascoe introduced the Chairman to a Bradford Park Avenue supporter, David Worksnop.
Pascoe took up the story. “When we played Bradford at their place earlier this season, David mistakenly thought the game was at Stoke Lane and travelled here, came into the bar and discovered his mistake, fair play to him, he had a drink and laughed about his mix up and had a good natter with me” Pascoe told everyone.
David was back at the Bill Stokeld Stadium on Saturday for the real game and Pascoe remembered him and told the story and David was warmly embraced by the Millers fans in the bar and even had a picture with the Millers Chairman which is shown.
Sadly for David, his team went down 2-1, but he will never forget his double visit to Carlton Town.
The second half by now was underway and the Millers had taken the lead through Alex Howes, the two media students had taken up a position near the dugouts and ended up helping Mark Harvey protect the Veo equipment from damage as Storm Darragh made his presence felt.
Finally, Mick Garton sorted them out a couple of drinks and a couple of willing bodies to interview as Alex Howes and Tommy Brookbanks stepped up to the plate and into the boardroom to meet the lads for a chat.
We hope to see them back at Stoke Lane in the new year.
Meanwhile the lads have kindly released the footage for Carlton Town Tv, click the video link below.
