TOUGH LESSON AWAY AT RETFORD UTD
The reserves go down 6-1 in the floodlit cup to a good Retford team. It was always going to be an uphill struggle against a good strong experienced team like Retford UTD.
With in the first 10 minutes Rio was asked to leave the pitch to remove jewellery which in turn left us with 10 players & gave the advantage straightaway to Retford, they capitalised with 2 quick consecutive goals giving them a 2-0 lead within 15 minutes of the game.
Not for the first time this season Paul had to make a change early in the game. Jake replaced Rio which in turn meant a defensive reshuffle.
The experience and quality of the retford team saw them pass the ball around well and having players over throughout the half.
Carlton themselves did have a couple moments of retaining the ball but just not often enough and the strength of the retford team won possession back and wasn’t long before Retford went 3-0 up.
Credit to the carlton team they didn’t give up and kept trying to compete. They got a reward for their efforts with a long clearance from steggles who found Ellis, he played a pass into Harrison who was bought down and from 20 yds out took his free kick well to make it 3-1. Lack of concentration and poor decisions from the young Carlton Team saw them go in 5-1 down at half time.
Due to injuries another reshuffle Nicolas replaced Sonny. The 2nd half pretty much same as the first half, Retford Dominating play and carlton restricted to only having occasional possession.
The game finished 6-1 . Jack Steggles made several good saves throughout the game, which kept the score line down.
Albeit a poor score line for the young carlton Team but a good lesson & several positives to take away. 17 year old Harrison (pictured) scores his first goal with a superb free kick, & 17 year old Rueben makes his first start.
We wish all the best to Retford, who im sure sure will go on to have a successful season in the league and cup!
