THIS ONE WAS FOR THE VOLUNTEERS AS MILLERS BEAT GRANTHAM AT STOKE LANE !

Carlton Town defeated Grantham Town 2-1 in the big bank holiday Monday game at Stoke Lane in front of a heathy crowd of 240 in mid afternoon sunshine.

It is a fact that an early morning pitch inspection could have proven challenging for the millers given the overnight rain, but the club followed the Trent Bridge groundsman’s instructions to the letter over the bank holiday weekend, covering the problem area of the pitch when instructed to do so, leaving it open to the elements on other occasions and also carrying out the remedial work as instructed.

The fact Mansfield Town locally had their game called off today highlights not only the awful rain Nottinghamshire is having, but also the fantastic job done by the Brillant volunteers.

The few hours the ground staff and volunteers had to work on it from 9.30am onwards proved pivotal and massive credit should go to Kris the club’s groundsman and all the volunteers and a big Thankyou also to Adam from the ground staff at Southwell Race course who turned up to help and advise as well, the players were so grateful the game was on, they had a whip round in the dressing room and put over £100 behind the bar for all the volunteers, a fantastic gesture indeed that was much appreciated.

The players were then set with the task of winning the local Derby and they didn’t disappoint, winning a hard fought and close contest 2-1.
Grantham looked far from a team fighting relegation and played their part in an entertaining game, but goals from Man of the Match Niall Hylton and Nat Watson saw the Millers home before Rushen pulled one back for Grantham in the 90th minute to give Carlton a nervy last few minutes in stoppage time.

The Man of the Match was chosen by match sponsors Lee Carrrington Painters and Decoraters and it was John Gorman who with the help of his colleagues at Trent Bridge has done so much for the club recently and in particular in the last few days, who was asked to present Niall with his prize.

The Millers move up to 7th after their 2nd win of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Carlton Town Tv spoke to Joint Manager Tommy Brookbanks and Niall himself after the 2-1 win and those interviews are below.

Carlton are back in action again this coming Wednesday when they travel to Liversedge 7.45pm.
