SEASON ENDS SADLY IN THE PLAYOFFS, BUT PLENTY OF PRIDE FOR THE MILLERS.
I’m Carlton Town were beaten 2-0 by an excellent Stockton side on Tuesday evening in front of the highest attendance the Millers to our knowledge have ever played in front of during their history, 1,637 to be precise.
It was a pleasant evening in Stockton, a cracking atmosphere created by the huge numbers and the brilliant travelling fans, who gave as good as they got and turned out themselves in decent numbers to support the Millers, but the Semi Final proved a match to far for Carlton after a gruelling spell of games in a short period of time.
That’s taking nothing away from Stockton who fully deserved their win and Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton was among those at the end congratulating the home side on their semi final victory.
Glen Butterworth will rightly take the plaudits for his 2 goals , but a special mention for the Stockton keeper who when called upon when the Millers threatened to spoil the Stockton party was outstanding.
Felix too was outstanding once again in the Millers goal and after proving something of a pantomime villain in the eyes of the noisy Stockton supporters, was applauded off at the end by those same supporters. Dan Brown and Niall Hylton were the other Millers players who came out of the game with the most credit.
Even though the Millers left the field beaten, they did so to loud applause from both sets of fans, with many home supporters appreciating that Carlton had been the only team to beat them at home this season and the Millers fans grateful of a fine season indeed which had involved decent cup runs and reaching the Playoffs after only staying up on the last day of last season.
A big Thankyou for all the nice messages coming into the club including the one from former manager Les Mcjannet.
In the other playoff game, Pontefract Collieries went down 2-0 as well at Dunston and the two Chairmen, who had ironically spoken on the phone last week during playoff qualifyication drama, had seen both their teams go down by the same score line in the North East.
A massive thankyou to Skills for the Brilliant Corporate coach provided for the Millers Players, management and committees for the game which is pictured and I’m sure there will be plenty more thanks and congratulations at the Carlton Town presentation night, which we can today announce will be on Friday 17th May in the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar from 7pm.
After the 2-0 defeat, Tommy Brookbanks spoke to Carlton Town Tv and his excellent interview with Alan is below.
