SATURDAY 15TH JULY AND IT’S ALL GOING ON AT STOKE LANE !
A Foodbank, two live bands, the opening of a new stand, the opening of a beer garden, a couple of very special guests, Dan on the decks, what more could you want from a Saturday afternoon? Maybe a football match !
Yes Merthyr Town are the visitors to Stoke Lane for a prestigious friendly at the Bill Stokeld Stadium this Saturday 15th July with a 3.30pm kick off. The later kick off is to allow those wishing to attend the Notts County v Nottingham Forest friendly at Meadow Lane 1pm potentially take in both games.
A really important part of the day is the Foodbamk collection with Pasta Sauce, but not Pasta , tinned fruit, tinned soup, tinned vegetables, toilet rolls and Sanitary products particularly welcome.
The opening of the new stand and Beer Garden will commence at approximately 2.30pm with Talksport presenter and Filmaker Jonny Owen and Forest Legend Ian Storey Moore in attendance to do the honours.
The stand will be named after the company that have put it up DAVIES ROOFING SOLUTIONS with the help of Carlton volunteers and in particular Boatsy. A massive thankyou to Paul and Sian Davies and sons Shaun and Daniel the family who have massively helped the club out, a family who have big welsh connections , so a fitting day indeed to open it and of course to than man Bevan and our man Mad Gav for brokering the fantastic oppurtnity for the club.
Gav told us “Paul is probably one of the biggest Talksports fans, it’s the only Radio station he listens to from morning to night , so having Jonny Open the stand is amazing, he is delighted with that”
The Beer Garden has been sponsored by FINELINE MARKETING RESEARCH and has been built in memory of Olivia Hinton who tragically died in a road accident in December 2018. Her Father Scott Hinton heads up Fineline and become involved with the Millers in the last 12 months thanks to Boatsy and Mad Gav, we look forward to seeing Scot once again at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
We have made the unusual decision to produce a Programme for the game which features new captain Niall Davie in action on the front cover and has a pull out picture of Jonny Owen and Ian Storey-Moore so fans can get autographs if they so wish. Full coverage of Saturday’s historic day will follow in the first home programme of the season v Sheffield Fc on Tuesday 15th August.
We have Harvest Pale on draught this weekend thanks to the Fox and Grapes at Sneinton, a brilliant Castle Rock pub and a massive thankyou to the bands and soundteam who are well featured in Joe’s brilliant Matchday Programme.
This now annual fixture was first held two years ago at Stoke Lane with Carlton running out winners, before the second match last year at Merthyr ended 1-1 with Merthyr winning a penalty shootout. Next year Carlton will travel back to Wales, but for now all eyes will be on Stoke Lane.
A massive thankyou to all the games sponsors, all those who have volunteered at the ground over the last few weeks , all this who contribute to the 150 Club which has also helped towards the work carried out and now hopefully everyone can start enjoying some football, seeing what the new squad Tommy, Mark and Andy are building can offer in the coming weeks and months.
