REVENGE IS SWEET FOR THE MILLERS AS HOLDERS DEFEATED IN THE SENIOR CUP
- Carlton Town overcame a potentially awkward banana skin to take revenge on the team that had brilliantly beaten them in last season’s Nottinghamshire Senior Cup Final.
When Carlton saw they had been drawn away to Newark and Sherwood Fc, it obviously brought back painful memories of last years final defeat and the Millers were determined not to go down again to their Collingham based neighbours.
Carlton’s team to be fair looks quite a bit different this season in terms of personal and early season results and they continued their excellent form with a comfortable 2-0 win with fine goals from Lamin Manneh in the first half and Alex Hardwick in the second.
Newark and Sherwood were robust and had their moments, including a good spell after Carton had gone 2-0 up, but were also thankful to their excellent keeper for one or two brilliant saves to keep them in the game.
Carlton now have a home tie in the quarter final against either Mansfield Town’s Academy or Basford United.
Nottingham Forest’s Academy side beat Gedling Miners Welfare 4-1 in the only other tie taking place during the evening at Plains Road.
Carlton Town Tv were pitchside at the final whistle as the Millers players and management came across to applaud their decent following from Nottingham and Media Correspondent Josh Hodgson caught up with Joint Manager Mark Harvey and new 3 month loan signing Peter Dearie.
