OUTSTANDING MILLERS WIN THE BIG LOCAL DERBY AT BELPER !
The Carlton Town fans were in buoyant mood as the Millers put in one of their best performances of the season to win 3-1 away at Belper Town on Saturday afternoon and gain revenge for their 2-1 defeat earlier in the season at Stoke Lane.
It might not be Forest v Derby, but as a non league local Derby, it’s a good one and in recent years, Carlton have struggled to get a result at the Raygar Stadium.
Saturday 8th February was different however and after Lamin had given the Millers an early lead with an excellent goal, Carlton never looked back and the only frustration was that they did not go in at the interval three or four goals to the good, memories of last week resurfaced, Tommy Brookbanks was to tell us later , Tommy also told us how much the players appreciated the fans support.
Tommy and Mark need not have worried, an excellent finish from Liam Moran stroking home a loose ball in the box early in the second half, was followed up by an equally fine finish from Nat Watson after being set up by substitute Niall Davie, who stole the ball from Belper and surged towards the Belper goal before brilliantly setting up Watson who made it 3-0.
Terry Atem scored a late consolation for Belper who remain 3rd in the Northern Premier East League, while the Millers remain 10th and now look forward to another clash with a top five side when Emley AFC visit Stoke Lane next Saturday 15th February.
Millers Fans were spread around the ground at Belper and there was a decent amount of them who made up part of an excellent attendance of 576, but the most vocal were most certainly those behind the away goal.
