RON ATKINSON IN THE HOUSE AND CHANGES TO SOME PLANS FOR SUNDAY !
With the sale of tickets now topping the 1,700 mark for the Legends game between Manchester United Legends and the Legends of Nottingham, some changes have had to be made to arrangements for the game at Stoke Lane at 1pm on Sunday 9th February.
Carlton Town have brought in a highly experienced safety officer to advise and help with the game, who will also be heading up the operation on the day, given it will be the biggest gate in the clubs history and a meeting on Tuesday that was expected to last 2 hours from 12 midday, went on until late in the afternoon as the club and the organisers faced up to some of the challenges the extra spectators will bring.
Originally when the game was organised, many of the players were coming in a coach, but that is no longer the case and many of the parking spaces within the Bill Stokeld Stadium have been allocated to players, officials, volunteers, disabled ticket purchasers and those staging the event.
A TTRO has also had to be put put in place with Nottinghamshire County Council, because of the sheer volume of traffic expected and with traffic stewards also required, costs have risen significantly, particularly for the organisers.
The club have agreed to release the remaining parking spaces inside the ground to Superstar speakers for VIP Parking only which can be booked at £20 per car on line, this will be the only way for those with tickets to park inside the ground and spaces are limited.
The extra Money raised will go towards paying these extra costs which are significant.
In affect, Stoke Lane will be closed and access to the car park will only be available to those mentioned above.
Dozens of vechiles turning round once the car park was full, next to the bus plug from the loop road with a high pedestrian flow was considered untenable and a huge health and safety concern.
More details re parking options will be available in due course, but the only way to book to park inside the Stadium is through Superstar Speakers and that will not change going forward.
Outside bars have been delivered to the ground in the last 48 hours and draught Mahou, Koppenburg Strawberry and Lime will be available at one bar and Camden Pale and Mahou at the other with Pepsi and Pepsi Max and bottled water also available at both outside bars.
The club have also managed to secure some Guinness today, there is a huge shortage so the club are highly delighted to have secured a limited supply ahead of the big game, this will only be available however in the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar.
There will be a further bar selling cocktails, Prosecco and Champagne.
This website has also been told this evening that a true football legend is expected to take charge of the Manchester United Legends team, a man who managed both United and Nottingham Forest, no less. Big Ron Atkinson is the name we have been given and wow !
The club can assure spectators that an unprecedented amount of work has gone into this event, both from Superstar Speakers and Carlton Town to attempt to make it an afternoon to remember, but given the volume of spectators, health and safety protocols has to take priority and are being driven by professionals, the majority of tickets for this event have been sold at the extremely reasonable price of £10 and there will be queues, particularly for those arriving in the last half hour before kick off, please arrive as early as you can.
We will give a further important update before the weekend, so watch this space and thankyou to everybody who is supporting this outstanding event.
