MILLERS ON FIRE, BUT SUPERB SHEFFIELD REARGUARD MEANS POINTS ARE SHARED AT STOKE LANE.
Tommy, Mark and the Carlton Town coaching staff will wonder how the Millers failed to make it two wins on the bounce after a dominant and pulsating clash at Stoke Lane on Tuesday night.
Carlton had to accept a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Sheffield Fc at the Bill Stokeld Stadium, Jack Newell (pictured) on loan from Burton Albion made it two goals in two games with another excellent finish early doors, before Aldrich made it 1-1 after Sheffield got round the back of the Otherwise excellent Millers defence.
The first half was fairly evenly balanced, but the second half saw the Millers lay siege to the Sheffield goal and only a brilliant display by Sheffield keeper Myles Wright and the woodwork prevented the Millers from taking all three points.
The Millers attracted a decent crowd of 218 for their first home game of the season, all be it midweek and the buzz was brilliant inside the stadium.
When Nat Watson crashed a superb free kick against the woodwork in the second half and the Sheffield keeper in another incident totally messed up his punch before seeing the ball fall perfectly into his lap, Carlton fans will have realised, it was probably not going to be their day.
Carlton felt they had another decent shout for a penalty as well, but it was not to be and despite the Millers second half dominance, Sheffield should be praised for their excellent resilience and they travelled back up the M1 happy with a hard fought point.
Carlton Town Ambassador Ian Storey-Moore probably summed it up perfectly when he said at the final whistle, be grateful of the point, I have seen the opposition not have a shot on goal and then sneak it in the 95th minute, he was not wrong!
Carlton are 3rd in the league after 2 games with Belper top after two wins from two.
Post Match Interviews With Andy Clerke and Nat Watson will follow along with the highlights as soon as they are available to us.
