LAST DITCH DISAPOINTMENT AS A HECTIC WEEKEND COMES TO A CLOSE
A fantastic Friday night with Frank Clark, an excellent performance from the Millers players on Saturday and then at the death, a twist in the tale, a moment of controversy that left the Millers fans furious and the Liversage fans ecstatic.
Let us start with Friday night and the brilliant Frank Clark who told some wonderful tales to the 75 who had gathered in the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar.
The evening sponsored by MSR saw supporter Taz from the Ukrainian community win the best ever Trust me prize, signed by Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher (see cover picture) and Nottingham Forest hospitality prizes and Memorobilia options including items donated by Everton Manager Sean Dyce were won as prizes on this important fund raising night for the club.
Praise for Martin Poxon, the food was as good as ever and a big thankyou to all the volunteers who helped on the night and in particular Club Ambassador Ian Storey-Moore and Gaz and Tim Bee who worked their socks off all night to support the fun raising.
Attention then turned to the Saturday and the Miilers boosted by Mike Hurley, one of our brilliant supporters from Ireland coming over and putting on a package for mascots, with the Carlton Town u7 Lions, u9 Blues and u9 Lions leading the players out.
The mascots and their parents helped boost the gate to a brilliant 276, helped also by a decent following from Liversage.
The two teams then played out am entertaining game of football that swung both ways throughout, a fantastic Felix save and a brutal shot from Nat Watson that rattled the Liversage bar were moments that stood out and a special mention who Liversage keeper Jake Oram who also made fine saves from Lamin Manneh and Niall Hylton in the first half.
Carlton took the lead early in the second half, a brilliant solo effort from Lamin Manneh ,before Joe Watson levelled with a good header.
Manneh then turned provider after a fine ball from Nat Watson and Jack Newall put the Millers in front with a typical Strikers close range finish.
Carlton then missed several chances to put the game to bed, before injury time agony.
The assistant awarded Carlton a throw in, but the referee overruled that decision to give the throw in, wrongly in the eyes of the Millers supporters close by to Liversage. To add salt to the wound, Liversage were then awarded a hotly disputed a penalty and Raw made no mistake from the spot in the 98th minute.
A hectic 48 hours had come to a conclusion in the most dramatic way and Liversage fans celebrated with shouts of Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire !
Mark Harvey spoke to Carlton Town Tv after the game.
