INVESTMENT IN PITCH PROVES INSTRUMENTAL AND MILLERS RESPOND ACCORDINGLY
With heavy rain falling at Stoke Lane for large parts of Thursday and Friday and more overnight rain in the early hours of Saturday morning and beyond, there was a general feeling that the 10am inspection would once again lead to a postponement, but Carlton spent a lot of time and money on their pitch in the summer following last year’s significant number of postponements.
The reward came this Saturday, not only were Carlton one of only 3 teams to get their games on in the Northern Premier East League, they brought an end to a disappointing run of results during November to start December with a bang.
This game would undoubtedly have been called off last season given the substantial rainfall and it is fair to say that the pitch will need some work on before the next fixture, given it also rained throughout the afternoon, it was indeed a pretty horrible afternoon.
The Millers were pleased to attract a crowd of 171, given many regulars were missing, most presumably due to the foul conditions and even more pleased with the 2-1 win with two excellent volleyed goals from Alex Howes (pictured) and Ollie Clarke.
Bradford Park Avenue pulled a late goal back after a goalmouth scramble, to give the Millers a nervy last few minutes, but Carlton deservedly held on to secure the 3 points.
Carlton move up to 11th following the 2-1 win and are back in action next Saturday when they travel to the North East to take on Ashington.
