INCIDENTS AT CARLTON TOWN HIGHLIGHT THE CHALLENGES FACING SMALL CLUBS.
One will often look on social media or in the local paper and read that a small sports club, mainly run by volunteers and by those in the local community that provide sporting opportunities for youngsters has been targeted by thieves or vandals and last week it was Carlton Town’s turn to get attacked.
It is a sad reflection on society that these sort of incidents occur and the decent people are left picking up the pieces created by those that get off on doing such horrible things.
Both the Junior set up and senior set up were targeted last week.
The Juniors whose main base is just up the loop road at the front of the new housing estate had already suffered from vandalism in recent weeks, but last week it was targeted again, with someone or a group breaking into the container which holds their goal posts and nets.
Whoever did this, then started a fire and destroyed the nets, it could have even worse, the juniors had previously had their corner flags and respect barriers vandalised.
The seniors meanwhile suffered a break in and damage at the Bill Stokeld stadium the day before Roger Smith’s funeral, although this website understands the club do have some significant cctv footage which was recorded before the power was cut off by the intruder.
It is no secret that Carlton Town as a club does so much good work in the community and heart breaking for those that give up so much free time to do good things, that then face these kind of mindless acts.
Both sections of the club are working with Nottinghamshire police to try and find the people who have carried out these crimes against a club that helps raise thousands for various charities, provides significant food bank collections for the homeless and those struggling financially and provides sporting opportunities for kids from 4 years upwards through to young adults in the first team.
It is painful just to have put this kind of article out, but that was Carlton Town’s reality last week and it really is a crying shame !
