IMPRESSIVE MILLERS KEEP THE PRESSURE ON, BUT LATE BELPER GOAL KEEPS THE GAP AT 7 POINTS!
Carlton responsed in style to last week’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Yaxley with a crucial 1-0 away win at Sutton Coldfield Town on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Arron Opoku scored the only goal in the first half, but managers Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey will have been delighted with the quality of some of Carlton’s play as they dominated long periods of the game without killing the game off.
When Sutton did threaten, Dan Brown in particular made a couple of key interceptions to help preserve the Millers lead and Alex Howes who signed a contract with the club for this season and next only 2 weeks ago, was a constant threat on the offensive for the Millers.
Carlton thought they may have reduced the gap to the playoffs to 5 points, with news coming through of Belper Town drawing with Daventry, but the Nailers scored a winner at the death and the gap remains 7 points.
Carlton did move back up to 6th and have won 15, drawn 11 and lost just 6 games this season, but standards above them are very high and slip ups have been few and far between from the top 5 clubs.
Carlton will keep battling of course and next week travel to Corby Town who themselves had a good win this weekend beating Soham Town Rangers 3-1, moving up to 14th in the process.
Carlton fans flew both away flags behind the goal they were attacking and Boatsy introduced the Chairman and Dave Hodgson to a new supporter today whose nickname for the purpose of this report escapes us, it was an interesting one indeed and we hope to see him at Stoke Lane in the very near future!
