IAN STOREY-MOORE THE FOREST LEGEND, NOW OUR FIRST EVER CLUB AMBASSADOR
When Nottingham Forest’s double European Cup winner John Robertson was speaking at Carlton Town a few years ago and it was put to him, he was the greatest player in the club’s history, he said no, the greatest player in Forest’s history sits over there.
He was pointing to Ian Storey-Moore who was a guest on a table at the function and now that very special player is officially the clubs first ever Ambassador.
Ian has attended many games in recent times and is probably our most famous supporter and when Tommy Brookbanks asked him on behalf of the club, if would take up the role and a brief discussion about what was involved, he was delighted to say yes.
Ian scored 105 goals for Forest in 236 games during 1962 and 1972 and was a supremely talented player who lifted the crowd has soon as he got the ball with the anticipation something significant was going to happen, a mesmerising dribble, a great goal, he was some player !
Ian was transferred to Manchester United in 1972 and scored 11 goals in 39 appearances for the Red Devils, before injury sadly brought his excellent League career to an end.
Ian went on to play Non League football for Burton Albion in two spells later in his career scoring 52 goals.
Ian remains close to his friends at Burton Albion and when he is not at Carlton or Forest, he takes in a Burton game and indeed has helped arrange for a young Burton Albion side to visit Carlton during the forthcoming pre season.
Ian’s first act in his new position at Carlton was to help present some of the trophies on presentation night and when he himself won the Leigh Wood signed framed in the raffle, he immediately donated it back to the club and Gaz Bee raised £150 in an impromptu auction in typical Gaz style.
Ian is pictured presenting the picture to the delighted winner Jason, as Gaz looks on.
For those of you to young to remember, we bring you some highlights from a fantastic and historic Fa Cup quarter final v Everton at the City Ground, when he scored a memorable hatrick during the 1966-1967 season, but first watch his brilliant interview with Carlton Town Tv after his appointment had been announced to a packed Howard Mitchell Sportsbar.
