HISTORIC WIN FOR MILLERS IN THE FA CUP AND CARLTON TOWN TV ARE RIGHT ACROSS IT
Carlton Town reached the 2nd qualifying round of the Fa Cup for the first time in 10 years by beating step three side Nuneaton Borough away from home and Carlton Town Tv Media Corespondent Josh Hodgson was Pitchside to get all the reaction from a jubilant Millers team after the hard fought 2-1 win.
A brilliant cross by Lewis Durow was headed home by Khyle Sargent and a fine second from David Adegbola after he closed down the Nuneaton keeper Liam Castle following a back pass, before dispossessing him and brilliantly slotting home.
Nuneaton Borough got a life line in first half stoppage time after an effort deflected onto Dean Freeman and he headed into his own goal.
The Millers bench were furious as they were trying to make a substitution before their throw in just before the goal, but were not allowed to do so and the dugouts mood wasn’t helped early in the second half when Nuneaton were awarded a contentious penalty, but former Premier League striker Leroy Lita did a Carlton and missed the penalty.
It was certainly nice to see a team miss one against us, we have often being guilty of doing the same both this season and indeed last. The penalty clipped the top of the crossbar and the Millers, despite considerable Nuneaton pressure held out.
Credit to Felix for a couple of top draw saves and the two centre backs in particular were outstanding against the like of Lita and the impressive Jamie Ward, who showed his lasting class at times, but was unable to unlock the Millers defence.
Another to impress was Khyle Sargent who ran himself into the ground with significant contributions at both ends of the pitch, but as Khyle pointed out in his excellent interview, it was a team effort by everyone including the supporters who were there in numbers and vocal indeed.
Carlton are away for the third time in a row when they visit Coleshill next Saturday in the Fa Trophy and wait to see who they will play in the next round of the Fa Cup , we understand the draw is on Monday lunchtime.
What we do know, is that our big local Derby v Belper Town on Saturday 16th September will now be moved to another date as that is the date of the next Fa Cup game.
Finally it’s time to enjoy some Carlton Town after match reaction following this historic win , the first time Carlton have won a game against step 3 opposition away from home in the Fa Cup ever and celebrate the magic of the Fa Cup as our man Josh caught up with Mark Harvey, Khyle Sargent and Felix the cat and the team also captured the penalty miss on the link below which proved pivotal in the final reckoning.
The Millers coach pictured will have been a nice place to have been on for that journey back to Nottingham.
