GOOD TURNOUT FOR MICKY BARRETT TRIBUTE GAME AT STOKE LANE!
Carlton Town became the first winners of the all new Micky Barrett Trophy at Stoke Lane , but not before a first half scare at Stoke Lane.
The afternoon started with a brilliantly observed minutes silence for Micky and a cracking afternoon followed from there.
Clifton All Whites took a deserved lead with a long range effort that deceived Carlton’s keeper and could have had a penalty to on another day, with two close calls going the way of the Millers.
A headed equaliser by Club Captain Martin Ball and a neat finish following a corner from Nat Watson saw the Millers go in at the interval 2-1 to the good.
If Clifton had impressed in the first half , it was Carlton’s turn to up the anti in the second half and it became the Brad Wells show, he was extremely impressive and scored a brace to seal the win and the Micky Barrett Trophy with Carlton running out 4-1 winners.
The Clifton faithful however were delighted with their teams efforts in sweltering conditions and everyone was delighted with the attendance of 126 for Carlton’s first home pre season friendly.
There was a presentation ceremony on the pitch after the game with Mark Needham , a very close friend of Micky and You tube superstar Charlie Clarke presenting the Trophy to Millers legend Martin Ball, Carlton Joint manager Tommy Brookbanks claimed he had now done the double after winning the Nottinghamshire SenoirCup for the first time last season and winning this cup, always good for a line is master Brookbanks, a former Clifton centre forward himself and a good one, it had been a good day at Stoke Lane.
Carlton started some fund raising for their away travel next season and raised £100 from number cards on the afternoon, their travel bill has increased by at least 7k next season , so there is much still to do and any donations or sponsorship would be greatly appreciated, but at least supporters have helped make a start.
Carlton are at hone again on Tuesday night when Sherwood Colliery are the visitors to Stoke Lane for a 7.45pm kick off, admission is £5 for all adults and £1 for Under 16s.
Chairman Mick Garton and Commercial and Marketing Manager Gary Clarke were both on Radio Nottingham earlier this week talking everything Carlton Town and the radio station have been good enough to forward us the link to the show below.
