FA CUP JOURNEY IS OVER FOR GALLANT MILLERS AT STEP TWO RUSHALL
The Fa Cup Journey for Carlton Town is over for another year after a splendid run of results saw them navigate 3 rounds before finally going out to step two side Rushall Olympic in front of 315 in Walsall this afternoon with a significant number of Carlton fans part of that 315.
The Millers went down 3-2, putting on a gallant display which saw them draw level early in the second half after Rushall had taken a first half lead through the impressive Daniel Waldron.
In fairness, Rushall dominated the first half and Carlton were happy to go in at the break still very much in the tie and whatever Tommy and Mark said at half time certainly made a big difference.
There were one or two tactical tweaks and Club Captain Niall Davie came off the substitutes bench to make an impact,
Carlton went at Rushall in the second period and scored a cracking or a lucky opener depending on your point of view. The Millers fans were calling it a cracker, a great run and cross shot from David Adegbola that went over the head of the Stranded Rushall keeper Jacob Weaver to give the Millers a perfect leveller. Seconds later, Alex Howes hit the post when through on goal, all be it from an angle and Rushall counted their blessings.
There was more pressure from Carlton, but that missed chance sadly proved pivotal when Samuel Manson superbly swept home a second for the home side in the 74th minute and Waldron added a third on 79 minutes with an outstanding finish. There was still time for a couple of fines saves from Weaver in the Rushall goal before they should have scored a 4th and Carlton got a late second from a Dan Brown header.
Carlton had one more chance but could not force an equaliser before the final whistle and so the memorable journey cane to an end.
The highlight was undoubtedly the fantastic win at step 3 side Nuneaton Borough in the last round, but the supporters had another cracking away trip and the Carlton directors were treated to first class hospitality from the home sides directors, something they were very grateful of and Carlton wish Rushall all the very best in the next round.
Carlton Town still have the next round of the Fa Trophy to look forward to when they entertain Chasetown at Stoke Lane next Saturday 23rd September 3pm.
Carlton Town Tv were at the game to see the Millers journey for this season come to an end, a journey they can be proud of and John Bryson caught up with assistant manager Andy Clerke and midfielder Greg Tempest after the 3-2 defeat, so pour yourself a glass and sit back and listen to two really good post match interviews.
