EXTREME FRUSTRATION FOR MILLERS AND LAST HOME GAME BEFORE CHRISTMAS BROUGHT FORWARD TO 1PM.
Carlton Town were left extremely frustrated today after their midweek trip to Hebburn was called off after a pitch inspection deemed the pitch waterlogged.
It is no secret that the Millers were disappointed to be given a midweek trip to the North East, but after persuading a number of players to take time off work with two local lads who work away on their way back from Dublin and London respectively and the goalkeeper already in Hebburn, when the surprise and frustrating news came through that the game was off.
It was partly for situations like this that the Millers made their appeal to remain in the Midlands League, an appeal that was quickly dismissed by the Football Association, even though they asssured the club, their concerns had been noted. The club hope and pray that the game will now be played on a Saturday.
In other news, the club have agreed to switch Saturday’s game against Bridlington to a 1pm kick off after a request from the visitors to pull the game forward so the Bridlington team and their supporters could get back for the England World Cup Quarter Final against France.
This website understands one or two supporters have questioned the decision as they planned to stop and watch the game at the ground and believe the club has probably shot itself in the foot, but we can comfirm that the decision was taken purely to respect the opposition given it is such a big game and that our players would have made a similar request had we been away and although the club will obviously miss out on some significant bar take, sometimes there is a bigger picture and Bridlington have a fair trip back themselves, something the Millers probably now respect more than most.
The game is the final home one before Christmas and New Training kit Sponsors Gilbert Wealth will be the club’s very special guests on Saturday.
Also, an important reminder that it is a Foodbank game and the chance to make a donation for those who are really struggling locally with the cost of living crisis and the club would be grateful if supporters, committee and all involved with the club can bring something along.
Greg will continue with his mission to fill the £500 Football card and Chrismas draw tickets will also be on sale from both club officials and the supporters club.
Tommy, Mark and the players will be hoping to follow up the Senior Cup Quarter Final win with another positive result and get their league season back on track, fingers crossed!
