EXPERTS FROM TRENT BRIDGE CALLED IN TO HELP THE MILLERS, CHAIRMAN STATEMENT!

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton yesterday put a call in to friends at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club to see if they could advise and help the club deal with the issues with their pitch following the latest postponement last Saturday.

“The club were brilliant and during the course of Monday, three seperate professionals have come and had a look at the issues facing the club and advised what we can do going forward”

”The water table locally is extremely high I’m told and I also spoke to one of the top people at the Yel on Saturday who told me, they have had more matches called off locally this year than ever before”

”Nottinghamshire has certainly had the wettest winter I can remember in my life time and with us having to do the pitch inspections so early in the day, it even means we are losing the games where the pitch may be playable five or six hours later, but at the time of inspection by the local referee, it is not. I get it because it is due to the long journeys our opponents have to make, often from the North East, this was obviously not an issue in the Midlands league, but it is what it is with the long journeys”

”The league have also told us today that if we get further postponements, we have to find other equivalent venus to play at which will obviously hammer the club financially, so the stakes could not be higher”

”The experts have put forward to us some short term solutions and longer term solutions on investigating the main trouble spot which is causing us the most problems”

”All the stops are being pulled out to ensure Tuesday’s fixture with Bridlington can go ahead and the Supporters club have already put out an appeal to ask for volunteers to help at the ground on Tuesday morning around 9am or after 5pm in case any late work is required, if coming, please bring a pitch fork if you can and thanks in anticipation”

”The dry Monday will certainly help us and trust me no one at the club wants these postponements, we even gave up non League Day last week to try and get a game on our pitch, that backfired as well with torrential rain far worse than forecast fell over the next 30 plus hours none stop”

”On behalf of the club, I would like to thank the team at Trent Bridge for their input and help today and in particular at this afternoon’s meeting on the pitch, which I attended with Wally and Boatsy who has also managed to secure the club some pitch coverings” concluded the Millers Chairman.
