DETERMINED GRIMSBY BOROUGH HOLD ON FOR FRIDAY NIGHT WIN
The Cross bar, the post and a couple of wonderful saves from Liam Hilton in the Grimsby Borough goal denied Carlton at least a share of the points on a lively Friday night at Stoke Lane.
Grimsby themselves missed a penalty, but after taking a 2-1 lead in the second half, defended like their lives depended on it as the Millers laid siege on their goal in the final period of the game, in front of a decent Friday night attendance of 160 which included Millers supporters from Dorking and Manchester (pictured in the middle between club legend Ian White and the Chairman)
It had been an absorbing game in difficult conditions, with a swirling wind increasing in intensity as the game wore on and with the ridiculous amount of rain that has fallen on the pitch in recent days again, but credit to the ground staff and volunteers for getting the game on.
The Millers Supporters had been on a pub crawl from Sneinton to the ground and it’s fair to say many were well oiled when reaching the Bill Stokeld Stadium, but they managed to see it through encouraging till the last kick for the Millers to get the equaliser that didn’t come.
Quick mention for new signing Ryan Ebanks who made his debut at right back after signing from Grantham Town, supporters may remember he had a spell with us as a youngster under Wayne Scott.
Tommy Brookbanks was in positive mood after the narrow defeat when he spoke to Media Correspondent Josh Hodgson in the boardroom after the game.
