CUP DRAWS, FIRST FRIENDLY AND FIXTURES OUT NEXT WEEK!

Carlton Town went down 4-1 to  Northern Premier League Premier League neighbours Basford United this afternoon at Greenwich Avenue in their first pre season friendly.

Joint manager Tommy Brookbanks admitted that Carlton were a little off the pace in their first friendly against an impressive Basford side, but was pleased overall with the workout and is looking forward to improvement going forward.

Carlton were denied an early penalty when Tyler Blake was brought down and the referee admitted that in hindsight, he had made the wrong call , but maybe the fact the Millers didn’t appeal very vocally swayed him. Credit to the official for admitting the mistake , but Carlton had few chances in the game and Basford deserved their victory.

Both teams played a mixture of established players and youngsters coming through and substitute Jack Cockram (pictured) was a notable positive for the Millers and Basford manager Steve Chettle wil no doubt be happy with what he saw from his team on a beautiful afternoon in the Nottingham sunshine.

Carlton will now focus on Tuesday night when they visit Dunkirk and look forward to Wednesday when we understand, next seasons fixtures will be revealed.

Two fixtures the Millers do have a clue about are the Fa Cup and Trophy ones. Carlton have been drawn away to either Maltby Main or Barton Town on Saturday 21st August in the Fa Cup and Bedworth United at home in the Fa Trophy on Saturday 9th October, teams they have all played in the past with mixed fortunes.
