CHAIRMAN SPEAKS TO US AFTER RECEIVING SHIRT TO MARK HIS 20TH YEAR AT THE HELM.
Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton and Secretary Trevor Wells today carried out maintenance checks at the ground and Wells passed on a club shirt to Mark the Chairman’s 20 years at the helm.
Wells told Garton that the supporters, committee and management wanted to make surprise presentations to him after a game of the special shirt and tribute brochure produced by Lou Lardi to mark the Prize of Gedling awards, but due to Covid 19, had no opportunity to do so.
Garton spoke to us after inspecting work done on the club’s previously heavily pot holed car park which has now been partly tarmacked, something Garton and Strategic Development Officer Dave Hodgson have been working towards for the last three years.
Secretary Trevor Wells has been over seeing the work and Garton told us how pleased he was to finally make progress with the improvements.
“It might not seem trendy to raise money to repair a car park, but when you have so many people using the fantastic facilities we have, you want it to be safe for them and their children and Dave and myself were delighted when we secured money for infrastructure repairs and we have spent that money as per the legal agreements we signed and a big chunk of that was for the car park”
“We still have some massive challenges with money now needed for Floodlight upgrades which are part and parcel of running a club at our level and we currently obviously have none of our usual income streams”
” If i am totally honest, I think our season will be null and voided and I hope if that is the case, we can at least fit the tournament in that Tommy suggested, it really has legs and the interest has been amazing”
“I think it is unlikely we will be able to play in March, but this is only my opinion, if not and we can get started at Easter, we have a real chance of making this happen. We have this week received preliminary backing from the Notts Fa for the tournament and while it is still early days, a number of teams have made a firm commitment this week and Dick Durant should be in a position in the coming days to allow us to be able to announce the 16 teams”
“If it is to become a reality then it would obviously be nice to get a sponsor and ramp things up, but we are obviously aware at this stage that it is only a plan rather than something that will definitely happen”
“Finally I would like to thank everyone once again involved in the brilliant brochure I received and now the shirt, although sadly it will no longer fit me and rest assured, we will hold a special event of celebration at the ground when we are allowed to, it’s something I am very proud of ” said Garton.
