CELEBRATIONS LATE INTO THE NIGHT FOR CUP WINNERS!
Carlton Town have won their first trophy in their first full season under the Joint stewardship of Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey.
Carlton had to defend for their lives at times in the second half to defend a 1-0 lead and goalkeeper Shaun Rowley had to be at his very best to keep a clean sheet, making several crucial saves.
Tommy Brookbanks had watched Mansfield Town under 23s the following week and as this website reported, had been most impressed. He was not wrong but as well as Mansfield played, there were some excellent performances from in particular Arron O’ Connor, Tom Maddison who was named man of the match, Khyle Sargeant who put a hell of a shift in and the whole back four.
The tournament has been enhanced by introducing Nottingham Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town sides and Carlton have had to beat two of them in enthralling games.
Tommy Brookbanks picked out Arron O’ Connor’s winning goal on a foul night at Ollerton as the stand out moment for him, but undoubtedly Nat Watson’s double against Nottingham Forest was right up their too.
A special mention in particular for the Carlton Town fans who made up the majority of the 448 crowd including a significant number from the junior section.
Carlton players and management stayed late in the evening at Basford celebrating their historic win and further celebrations will take place on Friday night 6th May when Carlton celebrate a fantastic season in the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar at Stoke Lane, all supporters are invited to the evening which will include annual presentations for Players player of the year and supporters player of the year among others.
