Carlton Take all 3 points
Tuesday night under the lights at stoke lane against unbeaten top of the league Derby Singh brothers. Although not sure if its a night to remember or forget! Not to sure where to start, but will just keep it to the parts of football that was played.
The game started well both teams competing fairly and trying to play some good football with high intensity.
The first chance fell to the Derby team when they broke down the left, Carlton giving a needless foul away, saw them convert past Steggles at the near post from 20yds out. 1-0 derby 10 minutes in.
The Carlton lads did not allow their heads to drop kept playing through the lines. Derby then started to allow there frustrations to get the better of them with discipline issues resulting in a sinbin.
Only a matter of time before Carlton would ge their rewards, on 25 minutes Ellis responded in the best way you can! he cut in from the wing and took his shot well giving the keeper no chance 1-1
The second half was very stop and start for various of reasons. Derby were awarded a penalty, saw a good save by Steggles where he got down well to turn the ball around the post!
Again discipline issue for the visitors saw another 10 minute sin bin for them.
Carlton when allowed tried to continue to play the ball around and in patches had some good passages of play. The next chance was a free kick out wide, Ellis whipped the ball in putting the keeper under pressure, causing him to pat the ball in to is own net 2-1 Carlton.
Derby came close towards the end of the game when Carlton switched off giving them a double strike against the woodwork.
On reflection Derby unlucky not to take anything from the game, but credit to Carlton played until the end, shown tenacity, energy, togetherness, competed and wasn’t going to be bullied!!!
I have been told by various people I can no longer use youth, transition, young and anything to do with the age of the team 🙂 So on that note welcome to Senior football.
