CAN CARLTON SAVE THEIR SEASON VIA THEIR AWAY FORM?
Following the second 4-2 home defeat in the last week, Carlton fans were left scratching their heads in disbelief as once again the Millers made bad mistakes, to concede soft goals and then missed chances at the opposite end when having excellent spells of play, chuck into the mix a sending off for Jarred Holmes early in the game, which meant the Millers playing most of the game with 10 men, then you have a recipe for defeat.
Jarred will hopefully reflect and be disappointed with his actions, which left his team mates up against it and there is no doubt there is also a confidence issue with the team as a whole, certainly at Stoke Lane, the effort and commitment was there but once again the result was not.
Carlton’s home form under Tommy and Mark has been excellent in recent seasons, but this seasons has been shocking with only two wins in 14 games telling its own story.
Carlton if they are to stop up, have to start putting some kind of run together quickly and will be hoping their away form can possibly be their salvation.
Carlton have won 4 and drawn 2 of their 11 away games and all their recent points have come away from home. They beat Shildon 4-0 in October before suffering narrow defeats to North Sheilds and Stockton. They then traveled to Dunston and won 3-1 before picking up a point at Long Eaton on the 2nd January. The Millers played well in a 2-0 defeat at Stocksbridge, before defeating Tadcaster 2-0 and tucked in between was the fantastic win at Mansfield Town in the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup Semi Final.
Perhaps we are clutching at straws, or perhaps there is some hope in this argument, either way next week’s trip to Sheffield is an important fixture indeed.
A massive thankyou to Nottinghamshire’s Director of Cricket Mike Newell who is pictured with Mad Gav and who provided a fantastic update on all things Notts ahead of the new cricket season at Trent Bridge in The Howard Mitchell Sportsbar before the game.
