AWAY DAY STORIES A PLENTY FROM A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER!

Carlton Town may have suffered defeat in the first official Jonny Owen cup final, going down 3-0 to Merthyr Town in Wales on Saturday, but the 40 plus fans the Millers took with them, had a weekend to remember.

Carlton had their moments in the game particularly in the first half, but failed to finish off a number of decent openings after going 1-0 down to a very controversial penalty,
Merthyr looked the sharper of the two teams and added two further goals in the second half, as the Millers rung the changes, Merthyr played a different eleven in both halves.
Jonny Owen joined his beloved Mum to present the trophy shortly after the final whistle.

The Millers supporters then put their mark on proceedings, supporting England in the Quarter Final of the Euros, while the Merthyr Town players and fans were split with some supporting Switzerland and many surprisingly perhaps, firmly behind England.

Millers popular supporter Alistair had played out the National anthems before the Merthyr v Carlton game on his beloved cornet and was in storming form in the Merthyr bar, reeling off joke after joke to anyone who wanted to listen, with the cornet repeatedly coming out to entertain the packed function room and as England put away all 5 penalties to win the shootout, Alistair was in his element!

What happened next will go down in Carlton town folklore.
Remember last year, when another popular Carlton Town supporter ended up in a ditch and had to be rescued by the Fire Brigade, well this year it was Alistair and the Lovely Kat who stole the show, when you next see this fantastic couple, make sure to ask them about the barn, a wonderful story indeed !

Another wonderful story concerns that of our Munster branch in Ireland and our supporter and indeed sponsor Mike Hurley, who came all the way across to support the Millers in Wales.
Chairman Mick Garton stepped out of the noisy function room following the conclusion of England v Switzerland, to catch up with Mike for Carlton Town Tv. (Apologies for the background noise).

Supporters chief Alan Murphy was joined by some special guests to carry out the belated June 200 club draw and full details are on the supporters website, with Dave Hodgson and Gaz Bee the big winners this time round.

Carlton will welcome their friends at Merthyr Town to the Bill Stokeld stadium next July and will endeavour to match the superb welcome they received in Wales from Jonny Owen, the club and indeed the supporters of Merthyr Town on Saturday.

For their part, Carlton visit AFC Mansfield on Tuesday 7.45pm, before their first home friendly against Burton Albion under 19’s next Saturday 13th July at 2pm with admission £6 Adults, £4 concessions and £1 under 16s.

For now, enjoy some Carlton Town footage from off the pitch on Saturday which includes some special moments from Alistair and a chat with Mike.

Feedback from the Millers management about the first batch of friendlies, will follow after the AFC Mansfield  game on Tuesday.
