A WONDERFUL SATURDAY, A NIGHTMARE ON WEDNESDAY, NEWS UPDATE FROM STOKE LANE
Last week ended with the club in ecstasy, after their finest performance of the season at North Ferriby saw them run out 4-1 winners with the away coach completely full, the buzz coming back we are told was very special and very real.
Four days later however, it all changed quite dramatically for the Millers, not so much the result as Basford are well equipped to beat the Millers and although Carlton have had some great results themselves in the big local Derby in recent years, Basford’s premier league status obviously gives them the favourites tag. Believe it or not, that was only the Millers second defeat in the Senior Cup in the last five years, but that’s another story for another day.
The major issue for the Millers is the injury nightmare that unfolded during the two hours on Wednesday night. First half injuries to Saturday’s man of the match Lamin Manneh and striker Alex Hardwick were unwelcome indeed, but supporters would not know that goalkeeper Felix pulled his groin early in the game and played on in pain, for the benefit of the team with obviously no back up keeper on the bench and Niall Davie ended the night with a hospital trip himself although the diagnosis is not believed to be to bad.
All four players however are likely to be on the sidelines on Saturday, although this website understands Niall has a chance of being involved.
Tommy and Mark have had a busy day and goalkeeper Nykah Lyburd (pictured) who impressed for the Millers during pre season friendlies has today signed for the club and will make his debut on Saturday v Winterton at Stoke Lane.
Our friends at Mapperley All Stars are our very special guests on Saturday and should bring a welcome boost to the gate and a big Thankyou to Dave Perrin and Dave Hodgson for their Sponsorship as we look forward to welcoming Gary at Proper Football, who will be very special Pre Match guest in the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar.
The squad will be stretched yes, but Tommy Brookbanks promised us when we spoke to him today to still be on the front foot, despite the injury setbacks and he reiterated his appreciation on behalf of the management team and the players for the fantastic support the team are now receiving.
