A WONDERFUL PIECE OF HISTORY UNCOVERED AND BROUGHT TO YOU BY CARLTON TOWN TV
On Saturday 21st April 2006, Carlton Town played their final ever game on the original Carlton Town pitch, where the 3G pitch now sits.
Carlton played Yorkshire Amateurs in a game when a big home win would ensure them promotion to the Northern Counties Premier League.
That win was secured in superb fashion thanks to a Steve Chaplin hatrick and goals from Dean Gent, Grant Brindley and Phil Bignall which secured a 6-0 win and promotion.
The game has been found in the Millers archives and dusted down and edited for Carlton Town Tv by Ben Marsh and a thrilling treat it is to, look out for Tommy in his trendy white tracksuit from back in the day.
Carlton were promoted as Champions with 73 points from 30 games, ending up 8 points clear of second placed Retford and secured the title away at then big local rivals Gedling Town with a 3-0 away win with 2 goals from Phil Bignall and one from Carl Westcar.
Just to illustrate how far the Millers have come since then, their gate against Yorkshire Amateurs was just 61 with no memory of anyone shouting Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire and the gate at Gedling Town was just 50.
Carlton won the title, playing some cracking football in front of an home gate average of just 52 supporters.
Watch and enjoy this remarkable journey back in time .
