From the beginning, Carlton appeared to be on track in maintaining their winning streak and nearly took the lead in the opening minutes against North Ferriby. Lamin Manneh’s bursting run down the Carlton’s left side and low cross nearly reached Alex Howes, but good defending prevented Carlton’s number 10 from having a tap in.
The Millers applied more pressure when Michael Ford played Niall Hylton, who spun brilliantly away from the on-rushing defender. Hylton then shot from the edge of the 18-yard box but blazed his attempt over the bar.
Carlton continued to dominate the first half when Manneh whipped another low cross, but this time to the edge of the 18-yard box. The pass was met by Howes who fired his shot over the bar.
Going into the second half with the scoreline still 0-0, Carlton took the lead on 50 minutes. This was when Greg Tempest’s free kick was mishandled by the keeper, resulting in the ball trickling over the line to give Carlton a deserved lead.
Carlton came close to doubling their lead when Manneh’s first time cross from Carlton’s left-hand side was headed at the back post by Hylton, but the header flashed just past the post.
However, North Ferriby were back in the game when a long ball into the Carlton box was headed across the box by Tom Corner and headed home from 6 yards out by Danny Earl, making the score 1-1 on 64 minutes.
North Ferriby quickly turned the game around on 70 minutes when, a North Ferriby long throw was flicked on by Danny East, falling at the feet of Earl who was in the centre of the box. The North Ferriby winger calmly slotted past Felix Annan and into the keeper’s right hand bottom corner.
North Ferriby withstood Carlton’s pressure well and Carlton struggled to break down the North Ferriby resilient defence. With both sides battling to create opportunities in the last 20 minutes of the game, the final score concluded with a 2-1 to the visitors and ended Carlton’s winning run.
