Carlton Town vs Shepshed Dynamo: The Jackie North Memorial Game
Carlton vs Shepshed Dynamo
On the afternoon of the Jackie North memorial game, we paid tribute to the Duchess with both clubs uniting and giving a minute silence followed by a minute applause.
It was Shepshed Dynamo that started the game the strongest of the two sides, after Carlton failed to clear a corner, the ball fell to Pearson Mwanyongo in the six-yard box and his acrobatic effort was deflected just over the bar.
After a strong start from the visitors, Carlton started to gain some control of the match and came very close to the opening goal. On 15 minutes, Greg Tempest struck a long-range free kick which was tipped just passed the post and from the resulting corner Alex Howes flashed a glancing header just wide.
Carlton continued to pile the pressure on Shepshed, whenShea Thompson-Harris’s forceful run and low cross, was controlled brilliantly by Mussa Jawara. This allowed him to take the ball past the defender, for a low shot across the goal. But the shot drifted agonisingly wide of the keeper’s right-hand post.
Finally, Carlton’s dominance was rewarded, when Lamin Manneh was clipped inside the penalty box after he robbed Shepshed Dynamo defender of possession just outside the eighteen-yard box. Khyle Sargent slotted the penalty superblyto the keeper’s right-hand side and gave Carlton Town a well-deserved lead after 37 minutes.
Carlton continued to create chances into the second half when Greg Tempest played through Mussa Jawara to a one on one with the keeper, but Mussa could only divert his shot straight at the keeper.
Carlton’s persistent pressure was rewarded again, when they were given another penalty after Mussa Jawara was pulleddown. Half time substitution Lawrence Stewart Gorman took the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way, placing his penalty to the bottom right of the keeper’s post.
During the second half, Carlton controlled the game exceptionally. They were composed in possession and did not allow Shepshed Dynamo to create any meaningful chances. On 88 minutes Carlton capped their hard work and dominance off when Niall Hylton, from the left-hand side of the attack, dribbled past 4 Shepshed defenders and then rolled the ball into the bottom left corner to compete a wonderful solo goal, making it 3-0 to Carlton.
However, during the final few minutes, a misplaced Lewis Durow tackle resulted in a second yellow for the fullback. From the resulting free kick, the ball was cleared to the edge of the box for Reece Morris to strike a half volley into the bottom corner to give Shepshed Dynamo a late consolation. This strike resulted in the game finishing on a well-earned 3-1 scoreline to Carlton.
