CARLTON CRASH AT BASFORD!

Promotion Confirmed

RUN AWAY LEADERS TOO GOOD FOR MILLERS THIS TIME!

Carlton had started their Christmas campaign well, a 2-0 County cup win over Rainworth was followed by a 1-1 draw against Stamford following an impressive second half display, but they were brought right back down to earth when they met League leaders Basford United at Greenwich Avenue on Boxing Day.

Basford were always going to be smarting from their 4-1 defeat in the County cup final last season at Meadow Lane and so it proved as they took revenge on The Millers in emphatic style with a stunning 6-2 victory.

It was the third year in a row Carlton had faced Basford away on Boxing Day winning by the odd goal in 2015, losing by the odd goal in 2016 and now losing comprehensively in 2017 in front of a cracking crowd of 294.

It will be a fixture that will not happen next season with Basford running away with the league and certain for promotion with an excellent side which remains unbeaten going into 2018.

Carlton will have to dust themselves down, pick themselves up and go again, they have games in hand but are now only two points off the bottom and badly need to get back to winning ways in the league.

The Millers visit Romulus on Saturday and are at home to Lincoln United on New years day!
