Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town have been overwhelmed with the number of messages coming in on social media and on private messages and phone calls to senior figures at the club following the tragic passing of Secretary Paul Shelton.

His death as stunned the world of local and non league football and they include in particular the 3 managers he had worked with in the last 17 years.

Current manager Wayne Scott has been left shell shocked by his death describing Paul as "Knowledgable, supportive, honourable and an irreplaceable gentleman"

Tommy Brookbanks who achieved record promotions at the club with Shelton by his side and told us

"I have known him for 30 years and worked with him as a player and a manager during that period, he was a dear friend to Tina and my kids and was an outstanding secretary. We will all miss him dearly and my heart goes out to his family and everyone at Carlton"

Les Mcjannet took the baton at the club from Tommy taking them to their highest pyramid finish and winning the Notts Senior Cup for the first time in their long history and like he had been for Tommy, Shelts was by his side.

Mcjannet also gave us a moving statement "So sad to hear about the death of Paul Shelton, a stalwart of the club for many years. Shelts was not only a good Secretary but a very good man"

"During the 5 years I managed the club, he helped me tremendously over many aspects of running a football club, especially the signing of players, going out of his way on many occasions, in his own time to get players registered in time for the next match"

"Shelts was a man of few words, but when he did speak it was usually laced with sarcasm and fun. I loved the banter I had with him, especially about the team I had picked or discussing the match after in the bar"

"Shelts was very light with praise towards players or staff, but when he did, which he did about twice a season, you had done something special"

"I regarded Shelts as a friend and he will be sadly missed by all at the club.My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP MR CARLTON."
