Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town produced their best start to a season in years with an emphatic win over Sheffield Fc at Stoke Lane this afternoon.

A minutes silence was held in memory of Carlton Town youngster Brahms Ceesay who sadly passed away last week at the age of just 18 and further details will follow regarding the memorial game in September.

There were 3 first class new signings in the Millers side with Darol Lucas, Robbie McNicholas and Wilf Gnahore all making their debuts with new Club Captain Aaron Hooton starting on the bench.

Carlton had Match Sponsors and Matchball Sponsors for this the first game of the new campaign, so all was set up for a positive afternoon.

The players did not let the Supporters down with a hard working and solid display to kick the season off in style.

Danny Gordon earned himself a penalty in the first half and then got up and smashed it into the bottom corner to give The Millers a One goal half time lead.

Will Gnahore turned well in the box to get the Millers second although Sheffields keeper Brett Souter will be disappointed he did not save it after getting a decent hand on it and substitute Aaron Hooton caused Sheffield all kinds of problems after coming on, firstly having a goal disallowed before being pulled back in the penalty area from a corner.

Hooton too smashed home the resulting penalty to give Carlton a fantastic 3-0 lead.

Special praise for the back line for restricting Sheffield efforts including former Premier League striker Ritchie Humphreys and it was no surprise when Kieran Walker was handed the man of the match award by Luke Slater.

17 year old Slater had 4 seasons at Carlton Town as a youngster playing for the under 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s and is now at Mansfield Town and sponsors Msr Newsgroup asked him to present the man of the match award, a well deserved bottle of Prosecco.

Manager Wayne Scott told us he had been quitely confident all week but said " you never quite know exactly how it is going to pan out but I was confident given the way pre season has gone we could make a good start, it was nice to get that out the way"

It was an afternoon of wonderful positivity at Stoke Lane and we will have more reaction tomorrow on the back of that excellent result.
