CONTRACT FOR CUP FINAL HERO DANNY AS THE MILLERS CELEBRATE!

Carlton Town celebrated their presentation evening in style enjoying a cracking evening at Stoke Lane at a packed Clubhouse.

There were lots of winners in the house and none more so than Danny Elliot who took Players Player, Supporters Player and goal of the season for his sensational Senior Cup final goal at Meadow Lane.

The Millers midfielder also signed a contract at Stoke Lane last week, a decision that will prove popular with supporters still talking about his Cruyff goal.

The evening started at 6.30pm with awards for the Clubs under 17s and excellent speeches from both managers with Junior Chairman Paul Whitby announcing he was stepping away from coaching after 10 years.

Whitby wil still have a big role to play going forward at the club and it was clear, the respect he had from everyone in the room for the fantastic job he does for the football club.

Lee Esam who has taken on the Academy mantle in recent months was next up and told some great stories about his last 12 months at the club and incidents he had been involved in.

Sam Farn picked up the Managers Player award while Kylie Stovell who has worked his way into first team contention this season picked up Players Player, there were also Runners up medals for all the players and coaches.

Becky had been working hard preparing the food kindly sponsored by Paul Shelton, who sadly missed the evening due to illness and at 8.45pm, everyone descended on The Chuck Fowler Suite.

Josh Hodgson was on the decks, the raffle and the Media team, a busy night for him and Chris Bailey indeed!

The County Cup Final Final highlights were next up and the lads and supporters enjoyed reliving the moment and in particular Danny Elliots goal.

New Sponsors Lyndleys came up to support the next two awards with the Presidents award going to Kieren Walker and the Chairmans award to Lawrence Gorman.

Brian Dennett was next up to present the Clubman Award, Brian has won this award 5 years in a row but this year it went to the fantastic Lou Lardi who has done so much for the club in many ways.

Lou was away on holiday but will receive the award in the near futrue, Chris Bailey collected it on his behalf.

Next up Vice Chairman Paul King and Manager Wayne Scott who took some gentle stick off both the Chairman and President and later Supporters Chief Alan Murphy following his long address in 2016.

Wayne spoke about the season in detail before presenting the popular full back Daniel Fletcher with the Managers Players of the year and Danny Elliot with the prestigious Players Player.

Next up was the brilliant speaker that is Alan Murphy and he was on top form as ever, sarcasm, wit including some classic put downs as the atmosphere and banter reached a frenzy.

Goal of the season would have gone to Danny Gordon but for that moment in the Cup Final, one is sure Danny did not mind too much as it went to the other Danny.

Danny Elliot then made it a hatrick with the Supporters Player pipping Jack Steggles in 3rd place and Niall Davey in second place to his third trophy of the night.

Danny said afterwards that it meant even more to him than the Players Player, which shows the respect and relevance that particular award has at Stoke Lane, it is right up there!

A grinning Murphy then told us there had been a sweepstake on the length of Waynes speech, Sue Fletcher was the grateful winner, Scott smiled, enjoyed a Guinness but now knows the work starts all over again as he attempts to move The Millers up the table next year, The Cup Final win was a good starting point!

Jack Steggles was off to Hooters after his mum won the raffle, Danny Gordon was on good form and one suspects, he was not to far behind, William Mellors-Blair who himself scored a fine goal in the final won a bottle of Bells Whiskey, a big thank you to former Monkey Tree chief Pete Smith for sponsoring the raffle!

Special mentions for all the catering and bar staff and volunteers and in particular Jamie and Becky although Jamie could well be checking cctv after somebody nicked his vodka!

The contributions of everyone at the club including all Waynes back room staff were all noted by various speakers including Vice Chairman Paul King who made an excellent speech telling how he had become involved at the club.

Danny Elliot spoke to Millers Radio and his interview will be downloaded in due course!
