Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town put in a committed and solid display in their final home league game of the season against promotion chasing neighbours Basford United at Stoke Lane and indeed had a number of chances to win the Bank Holiday Monday clash in front of a decent crowd of 171 on a cloudy afternoon at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.

While Carlton had secured their safety after a much improved Second half of the season, Basford are still very much in the Playoff mix but a draw today was not really what they needed from a fiesty end to end encounter.

Both goalkeepers made fine saves, there were crunching tackles, guilt edge chances and the match officials had to be at their sharpest to keep up with the pace of this Evostick Division one contest.

This 0-0 draw followed a 4-4 draw with Stamford, but the entertainment value was very much up there despite the stalemate and if Basford do fail to make the playoffs, they will no doubt reflect on the 3 points deducted by the Northern Premier League rather than the 2 points dropped today, because make no mistake, the Millers were worth at least a point and it told you everything that many home supporters left frustrated, the Millers had not collected all 3 points.

Carlton finish their league campaign next Saturday away against AFC Rushden & Diamonds who need to win to secure a playoff place themselves, Basford take on Newcastle Town at Greenwich Avenue needing a win and hoping Carlton can take something from their final game, which is equally important in the playoff mix to Basford who are just a point behind 5th place Diamonds.

In another twist, if Newcastle Town beat Basford and Carlton get something from Diamonds, Newcastle Town could yet claim the final playoff place!

Details of the Easter draw and an exclusive first ever Millers Radio interview with Carlton Coach Lee Esam will follow on this website , watch this space!
