Promotion Confirmed

Recent new signing Ben Wallace scored the all important first half goal that secured Carlton Towns Evostick Division One Status for another season in a scrappy game at Stoke Lane.

It was a flick header from the new boy that defeated impressive Market Drayton keeper Ash Rawlins and the 1-0 half time lead was no more than Carlton deserved after a positive first half performance.

The second half was not so good on the eye but Millers centre backs, Walker and Gorman were solid at the back and Steggles did the business when called upon in the Carlton goal.

It was great to see Julia Stokeld and her family in the crowd and she proved a lucky omen for the club her dad served so proudly for many many years.

The win was welcome indeed after 2 away defeats on the bounce and with 39 points now on the board, Carlton will be delighted to finally be mathematically safe.

Carlton can now look forward to the final 5 league games of the season and the small matter of a Cup Final at Meadow Lane against Basford United on Tuesday 2nd May.

If Carlton were to require any reminding of how difficult that game will be, they only need to glance at todays Evostick Division One result from Greenwich Avenue, Basford United 7 Belper Town 1.

That game however is for another day, for this weekend, Carlton can be happy that their form overall in the 2nd half of the campaign has led them to safety and with the limited budget manage Wayne Scott has to work with, he is certainly not doing a bad job at Stoke Lane!

Match day hero Ben Wallace (pictured) was interviewed by Millers Press Officer Josh Hodgson after the game and that interview will be available on Millers Radio in due course!
