Promotion Confirmed

Pitchero could not have picked a better fixture for their first videoed game at Stoke Lane, it was an absolutely barnstorming cracker and the perfect advert for non league football.

Malcolm Podier signed from Basford United in recent days was given his full debut by manager Wayne Scott after impressing off the bench at Kidsgrove on Saturday and he impressed in early exchanges.

Second in the table Spalding who had already beaten the Millers twice this season were the better team early on however and it was a surprise when Carlton took the lead.

Danny Elliot took the shot but it was Jordan Wilson who deflected the ball home to give Carlton a 28th minute lead.

Spalding soon hit back with a superb finish from Lean Mettam on 34 but substitute William Mellors-Blair (pictured) who had just come on to replace the injured Josh Rae went on a wonderful run on the right wing and Kevin Lusamba converted after the substitutes great work.

Carlton took the lead into the interval and started the second half well, determined to finish the job and when another substitute Daniel Gordon turned in the box and finished superbly to put Carlton 3-1 up after being set up by Mellors-Blair, Carlton were in the driving seat!

Spalding however are not second in the league by accident and back they came and how!

Mattam scored his second on 78 after Jack Steggles had parried back into the traffic and Stamfield hit a wonder strike on 80 to pull Spalding level.

From here, one could only see one winner but Carlton continued to try and play good football and did not panic and a fantastic cross from the byline by the excellent Lawrence Gorman fell perfectly for Captain Kieran Walker who swept home the winner from close range in the 93rd minute of a pulsating game.

Match sponsors Steve and Leslie Matthews nominated their man of the match Mellors-Blair for "changing the game" and interviews with him and former manager Tommy Brookbanks who was among the 90 strong crowd, about this summers 10 year promotion celebrations will be on Millers Radio in due course.

A massive thankyou to Steve and Leslie for their wonderful support and to camera man Neil Ward, what a start to his new role at the club!
