Promotion Confirmed

When Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton embarked on the mission to help take Carlton Town from the Central Midlands Leagues to The Northern Premier League, much credit is given to Tommy Brookbanks and his coaching team and indeed the Chairman himself and rightly so!

In the background however were a number of contacts the Chairman could lean on to help the process and part of that was bringing in new sponsors and putting on events that would bring vital money in to finance and help move the club forward.

Nobody played a bigger part in that than Mr Mark Hands, manager at the time of the then Comfort Hotel on George street in Nottingham, he introduced friends to the Chairman which led to Sponsorship deals for the club and companies like Premier Electrical and B4 painting are still involved today due to contacts introduced by Mark Hands.

The comfort Hotel hosted Carltons 100th anniversary dinner with Manchester United and England legend Bobby Charlton , they put on some of Carltons biggest ever events with Martin Peters, Jimmy Greaves and Frank Bruno and hosted the Christmas Luncheon with Sir Geoff Hurst, many of these when the Carlton ground was closed because the Colwick loop road was being built straight through the clubs main pitch at the time.

Hands affectionately known by Garton as the "Hands that feed" because of their success together on fund raising projects for the Millers moved to the village Hotel at Chillwell and Carlton moved events along with him, with both legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird and top former referee Jeff Winter on the guest list.

Hands eventually moved to the Cadburys Hotel at Bristol before returning to Nottingham as the general manager of Alea Casino.

When Carlton first introduced their big Christmas draw, it was Mark Hands who secured one of the biggest prizes for the club with a meal for 4 at Marco Pierre Whites and he repeated it for 3 years on the bounce.

In 2015, Chairman Mick Garton and Casino Chief Hands were 2 of the people asked to go to the House of Parliament and represent Business in Nottingham as Nottingham Forest picked up a community award and it is fair to say they had one hell of an evening.

Hands moved to Manchester and is now off to South Africa with a new challenge and a wonderful complex to run for the same company, but he came back to Nottingham for one last time to remember and say goodbye to some old friends including Mick and Estelle Garton.

The Chairman told us, " I will really miss Mark, he is one of the most Carasmatic characters I have ever met and we worked together in a partnership for mutual benefit for many years and his contact base and influence in the business community certainly helped Carlton Town on a number of occasions as we tried to establish ourselves ahead of clubs such as Eastwood Town and Hucknall Town ,we wish him well, it has been a privilege to know and work with him over the years" said the Millers Chairman as they sipped a final beer together at Alea Casino on Thursday night.
