EDDIE THE LAST DITCH MILLERS HERO!

Promotion Confirmed

MILLERS REWARD BEANO BOYS WITH FIGHTING DISPLAY IN DERBYSHIRE!

It is not quite Forest v Derby but Carlton v Belper is probably the long standing local non league equivalent and Carlton with a decent away following sprinkled round the ground, did their supporters proud with an another away point in an entertaining contest in Derbyshire.

The Carlton Town supporters club organised their first away day Beano of the season and Chairman Mick Garton and Press Officer Josh Hodgson and his dad Dave made a point of popping into the excellent George and Dragon prior to kick off  to see the supporters led by the wonderful Alan Murphy.

Murphy was holding court in style but it was by all accounts Karl Steggles who won the impromptu Darts match with a bulls eye, a fact confirmed by the locals despite Murphys protests!

Onto the ground everyone went and the Millers needed a hero!

Belper took an early lead from the penalty spot and then defended brilliantly to hold on the 1-0 score line.

Both goalkeepers made outstanding first half saves and the Millers were unlucky to go in at the break a goal down.

Belper started the second half well and it was an inspired substitution from Millers manager Wayne Scott that turned the tide.

Carlton were starting to run out of ideas before Scott turned to Josh Rae, he started to penetrate and open doors for Carlton with his more subtle but clever link up play and Belper were on the rack!

They continued to soak up pressure and threatened on the break and Jack Steggles had to remain alert as Carlton pushed for the equaliser.

90 Minutes arrived with the Millers unable to force the ball home despite corners, long throws and free kicks in the danger zone and then the hero arrived!

Eddie Schonecker seemed to get a new lease of life after Josh Raes introduction and kept running at the under pressure Belper defence and he was on the end of a cross that finally beat the excellent Belper keeper Rathbone in stoppage time to win the Millers a much deserved point.

Carlton remain 3rd from bottom but are now unbeaten in 4 games and this was undoubtedly a game they would have lost a few weeks ago, draws at Stamford and Belper this week are results to be proud of and the way Carlton supporters celebrated the equaliser told you everything, it felt like a real local derby meaningful goal, Alan Murphy certainly thought so, for him and the supporters club and for Dave Fletcher winning the sweepstakes presented by the delightful Claudia, Christmas had begun!

A big thank you to Dave and the crew for their warm hospitality again at Belper and a big well done to Man of the match Eddie, after being presented with a bottle of wine by Belpers match day sponsors.

Carlton are next in action on Wednesday when they visit Eastwood Community Football Club in the Notts Senior cup 7.45pm.
