NO CUP JOY FOR CARLTON DESPITE FIGHTBACK!

Promotion Confirmed

TERRIBLE RUN CONTINUES!

A rousing fightback came to nothing as Carlton Town crashed out of the League Cup in the first round after a late flurry of Spalding goals shot down the Millers at Stoke Lane.

The turnout of the Monkey Tree boys and Nottingham Forest star Ben Osborne who was in a sparse crowd failed to help bring any luck for the Millers.

There was typically bad news for Carlton manager Wayne Scott during the day, with both Daniel Fletcher and Josh Rae pulling out of the squad through illness and the managers mood did not improve after Carlton Went 2-0 down, one of them to another penalty.

Credit where credit is due however as the Millers got themselves back in the game with a penalty themselves, Arron Hooton firing home.

William Millers-Blair entered the affray in the second half, himself returning from illness and he wrong footed the Spalding keeper to pull Carlton level and Romella Nangle nearly gave Carlton the lead as they piled on the pressure with momentum now very much in their favour.

24 minutes later however , the tail was to take a familiar twist with Stainfield scoring a superb header to put Spalding back in front.

Carltons heads dropped and Stainfield added a second 3 minutes later before Acar wrapped things up with a 5th on 85 minutes.

A night that had offered so much promise with a fine fightback, ended the same way as 6 of the last 7 games, in defeat and this is certainly one of the worst runs the club as suffered, even in the last 3 difficult years and with confidence so low, manager Wayne Scott will be hoping that someone in his squad will pick up the baton and put in a match winning performance quickly, scoring the first goal in a game would certainly help!
