Carlton Town came back from 2 goals down to produce one of their finest performances in recent history and defeat high flying Witton Albion 3-2 and inflict the first league defeat of the season on the visitors.

Former Notts County youngster Romella Nangle who has just rejoined the Millers was both villan and hero for his side in a pulsating contest at Stoke Lane.

Witton started like a train and could have been 2 or 3 up inside the first 15 minutes after dominating proceedings, but then Carlton hit back with Danny Gordon rattling the post and then being thwarted by a great save from the Witton keeper.

Then the big talking point of the game as the impressive Nangle went through on goal rounded the keeper and faced with an easy tap in with a big open goal , he seemed to stumble, lose control and then hit the post, it was a bizarre miss by any standards and both Chairman Mick Garton and Supporters chief Alan Murphy, said it was the worst miss they had ever seen in many years of watching football.

Witton soon punished Carlton with Miller giving the visitors a half time lead and when Omotola made it 2 on 58 minutes, one feared for the Millers!

Fear not however as the impressive Schnecker pulled one back before setting up Nangle for a superb 83rd minute equaliser.

Witton still looked dangerous going forward themselves but it was that man Nangle who had the final say with a wonder strike across and into the goal to win the game for Carlton in stoppage time.

It will be fascinating to get his take on a remarkable afternoon and his after match interview with Press Officer Josh Hodgson will be online in due course!
