Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town will take consolation from keeping their 2nd clean sheet away from home inside 6 days but this was a game Carlton really should have won after bombarding the Loughborough goal in the second half but failing to hit the target.

Loughborough will argue at 2 clearances off the line by Lawrence Gorman in the first half and a great save by Jack Steggles in the second, but had the normally deadly Danny Gordon given Carlton the lead when he really should have done early on, then Carlton may have gone on and won the game well, we will never know!

It was a great flick on by Shaun Rickford but Gordon with the whole goal to aim for put his snatched shot wide, it would be harsh indeed to criticise Gordon, so often the brilliant tailsman for this side, today was not his day!

Rickford too had a great chance but his first touch let him down while Sturgess dwelled to long on an opening he had and once again, the chance had gone!

More chances went begging in the second half with Graham, Gordon, Rickford and Davey at the death all going close but no cigar!

A wonderful run by Davey saw him beat 3 defenders before powering the ball superbly across the six yard box but once again, there was no one on the end of it.

It summed up Carltons afternoon, but it was a day when defenders ruled supreme, a little different from when the teams met at Stoke Lane on the opening day of the season, that game finished 3-3, so it was all even again, all be it a bit more entertaining but a point a piece it is!

Carlton face a tough home game next Saturday when Belper Town are the visitors to Stoke Lane, they had a great afternoon beating Hednesford 2-1 in the FA Cup with former Miller Ruben-Wiggins Thomas on the scoresheet and they will come to Stoke Lane full of confidence!

Msr Newsgroup are sponsoring the fixture which kick off on Saturday 10th September at 3pm.
