Promotion Confirmed

Carltons crazy fortnight of fund raising continued with the clubs annual Golf day at Oakmere Park and a Sports day at Stoke lane on Sunday which proved to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Fourteen teams competed to be this years champions and it was the team captained by Ian White who teamed up with Johnny Bower, Richard Lawes and Adam Whithead.

Windy and at times showery conditions meant no one came in with a score above 90 this year but a score of 86 was enough for Whiteys boys.

They also picked up spot prizes for nearest the pin and can be well happy with their days work.

The Stokers came second with a score of 82 and Brian White, Phil White, Martin Gayle and Ian Gayle will have been delighted to be among the prizes.

Third place went to Msr Newsgroup captained by Mark Steggles and Carlton President Roger Smith carried out the presentations and extensive Raffle draw.

Smith once again did a brilliant job for the club and a big thank you to Marstons for their Sponsorship and to Msr for donating the first prize.

Steggles was also in the headlines on Sunday with his team winning the Clubs Sports day, taking the crown from the Carlton Coaching staff headed up by Darren Davis whose team came second.

There was controversy at the end however with Carlton goalkeeper Jack Steggles who was hosting the penalty shoot out getting involved with adding up scores.

He did mistakenly appear to have added the Pool shots accumaled in error to the overall total of his uncles team and maybe there should have been a stewards enquiry.

Second placed Davis took it on the chin and said he preferred beer to chocolates anyway but he will have a burning desire to retake the Championship next time round.

The Chairmans team again did well winning the pool with Garton himself among the points along with Press officer Josh and Gaz Bee, but apart from a good score on the Netball, Gartons team had a disappointing day coming 4th Overall behind Mick Greenwoods team in 3rd but ahead of Roger Gailbraiths who were 5th.

Rogers team did win the quiz and Bar Manager Jamie Huckerby reported running out of Lager, as the bar took a hammering in sweltering temperatures.

A big thank you to tournament referee turned quiz master Tim Bee for marshalling proceedings and to Mark Steggles for organising it all, it was not a bad weekend for Mr Steggles and his brother Karl who both left with a rye smile, next up Ilkeston FC on Wednesday night 20th July at 7.45pm., admission prices for this game are only £5 adults, £3 concessions and £1 kids.
