HILL THRILLS THE BILL!

Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, head of youth development and chief scout Alan Hill was the guest for Carlton Towns 15th annual Christmas Luncheon and he went down a storm in a packed out Clubhouse Sportsbar at Stoke Lane.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Jack Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst, Paul Merson and Graham Taylor, Hill said he stood before everyone in trepidation of following all the greats.

He need not have done, he was an outstanding guest and a brilliant speaker and Carlton Town legend and now committee man Ian White said he was the best speaker the club had booked for the prestigious Chrismas event, White like many others was left spellbound by the magic of some of the great Cloughie stories.

Hill refused to take a fee for the event, wanting the club to benefit from the afternoon but The Millers did make a donation to the Hill familys chosen charity, The Rainbow Hospice.

Hill could have gone on long into the night and indeed spoke for longer than any other speaker The Millers have had on over the years and like the excellent Howard Webb two years ago, was still in the building long after taxis had started to arrive for one or two of the guests.

Such was the enjoyment of the afternoon that the club has already taken a booking for a table for next years event.

Castle Rock were excellent top table hosts and sponsors of the event and the clubs staff and Martin Poxon and his catering team did a fantastic job as always.

Supporters dug deep for the club with a record fund raising effort with the main winners on the Imperial Tobacco table and in the Carlton Town contingent with Ian White walking away with a 40" television and Phil Jennings with some Nottingham Forest hospitality.

A fine festive afternoon with plenty of ale, laughs and some Christmas cheer thanks to an outstanding speaker, a big well done to Mr Alan Hill!
