Promotion Confirmed

Wanys Scott celebrated his final game as academy chief following his promotion to first team manager by masterminding an outstanding away performance at Ilkeston FC in which The Millers twice came from behind to battle their way back and finish with a share of the spoils.

Joe Brothwell (pictured) found the form that he is capable of and twice brought The Millers back into the game after they had fell behind to the Champions who have been outstanding all season.

Josh Rae looked to have won it for The Millers with a flick header but Ilkeston equalised in the final minutes from a free kick in which the wall and the otherwise excellent Jack Steggles in goal could have done better.

The Jimmy and Jack cic Carlton Town academy have at least given the club something to smile about ahead of their presentation evening on Friday night after being presented with the runners up trophy by the Hkl under 21 academy management Commitee after the game.

Chairman Mick Garton spoke to us after the 3-3 draw. " I am delighted for Wayne and his staff and the players, the work Wayne as done with the academy is one of the main reasons he as been promoted" said the chairman.

"I thought that was a superb performance, we needed  4 points from 2 very difficult away games at Buxton and Ilkeston and pulled it off in some style at the home of the champions"

"A big thank you to all the supporters who followed us to Ilkeston including Dennis with a drum and to the Ilkeston fans for their warm applause at the end as the lads picked up their runners up medals"

" I would also like to place on record my thanks to Paul Lowe and Les Bradd who were instrumental in bringing the Jimmy and Jack cic on board to sponsor the team, we could not have achieved this without their support"

The Carlton players then formed a guard of honour for the Ilkeston boys as they went and collected the league championship trophy, worthy winners indeed but The Millers are proud runners up with 38 points from 18 games with 12 wins, 2 draws and just 4 defeats finishing just one point above Stavely Miners Welfare, but doing it on the big stage on the final day against the most dangerous opponents is no mean feat and one The Millers and their sponsors  The Jimmy and Jack cic can all be very proud of!
