An outstanding turnout for Chuck Fowlers funeral at Gedling church and the wake at Carlton Town would have made Chuck proud indeed as friends, family and the local football community turned out to pay their respects to Carlton Towns long standing vice chairman.

Many of Carltons finest ever players were in attendance along with former manager Tommy Brookbanks who pointed out , he could name a full eleven plus substitutes from the excellent turn out ,many from his former championship winning side.

The service by the Vicar at the "All Hallows Church" was a lovely tribute of Chucks 65 years ,before the family made their way to Bramcote crematorium ,before joining mourners at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.

Stories were told, memories recounted in the packed clubhouse and many stopped well into the evening to remember Chuck Fowler.

Jeppo led a round of applause as the coffin was led from the church and once again in the clubhouse.

He had known Chuck for most of his life , they first met at school and had been friends ever since.

Bob Sharpe ,club captain Marin Ball and recently retired and long serving centre half Grant Brindley were Palllbearers .

Club president Roger Smith called for the club to rally and win the FA Cup game the next day in Chucks honour and Martin Ball and vice captain Alex Troke who also attended the funeral led from the front ,with Troke getting an early goal in a 2-1 win against a fine Handsworth Parramore side.

It was a fitting end to an emotional two days and Chuck would have been proud, "up the Town"!

Reflections from the game are on Millers Radio with "Nicolites" as James Morton caught up with Les Mcjannet and Alex Troke, just click on the Audioboo feed on the home page.
