Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town reached the final of the Notts Senior Cup for the 3rd time in 4 years with an extra time win over Basford United at Greenwich Avenue.

The game had been replayed following extra time floodlight failure at the Bill Stokeld Stadium two weeks earlier and with no Nottingham Forest fixture to compete with, there was a better turnout with 137 supporters attending the game.

Basford took an early lead through their marquee player Lee Hendrie before Carlton levelled through Alex Troke and then took the lead through a deflected effort from Danny Elliott.

Bradley Munn then converted a penalty after being fouled himself and The Millers went into the break 3-1 to the good.

The Basford management had fired their team up at half time and they came storming out for the 2nd half scoring goals through Holt and a Ryan Whitehurst penalty.

Only one team looked likely to win it at that stage and with Carlton already having lost both MacVicar and Wiggins-Thomas to injury in the first half, Ben Flynn then limped out of the action.

Carlton however played some decent football in the later period of the game and Basford were thankful to Barcherini for a couple of fine saves.

Barcherini made another fine save in extra time but could only direct the ball to Gordon who headed home the crucial goal before Torr put the game beyond doubt following an excellent run by Jordan Villums.

So another cup final for Les McJannet, this time against his old club where he coached under Rudy Funk, Rainworth Miners Welfare at the home of Hucknall Town on a date to be announced.

After match interviews with Brad Munn who had an outstanding game and manager Les McJannet are now online on millers radio.
